NHRA's Gary Densham to Race in Las Vegas After Making Finals in Bakersfield

LAS VEGAS, NV, April 2, 2010 – The National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) Gary Densham, owner and driver of Densham Motorsports’ Nitro Funny Car, announces that he will be racing at the NHRA Summitracing.com Nationals at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway from April 16-18.  Continuing his momentum from making the final round at Bakersfield in his Nostalgia Funny Car, Densham’s love for pure drag racing makes him ecstatic once again to race in Las Vegas. 

Reflecting on his most recent success at the March Meet in Bakersfield, Densham says, “We just got [the Nostalgia Car] back from Australia on the Friday before the March Meet, so my son Steven didn’t have a chance to upgrade his license.  I got to drive it again!  It really is a lot of fun remembering how to shift and going a quarter-mile again!”

In a 32-car field that also included NHRA’s Ron Capps and Cruz Pedregon, Densham was ecstatic to be the only NHRA driver to move past round one eliminations.  “We had a great race.  To have the car make all five runs in the five second range with our best elapsed time being 5.89 seconds was quite a thrill.  Making it to the final round was a great bonus,” says Densham.

Nostalgia Car racing reminds Densham of the early days of racing and the fond memories resurface when he sees the children of his fellow racers competing at the Nostalgia Car level.    “It’s neat to see second generation kids racing like their dads did.  It would be great to see my son win someday.”

Looking forward to the national event in Las Vegas, Densham is excited to be racing at a track that he considers a second home track due to its proximity to his residence in Bellflower, California.  “I have always enjoyed being at the Las Vegas track and the entire Las Vegas Motor Speedway facility – I race here every year and I can’t wait to be back there again,” says Densham.

Preceding the three-day race weekend, Densham will take part in NHRA’s fan/autograph signing event at Turnberry Associates’ Town Square outdoor retail and restaurant center located on the Las Vegas South Strip on April 15 from
7:00-8:00 pm.  Densham says, “I’ve had phenomenal fan support from day one and it’s a pleasure to be able to relax on a non-race day and to just enjoy talking to the people who watch us race – and they really are the ones who keep us in our race cars.”

Densham concludes, “As we continue to work on completing marketing partnerships for the remaining 2010 season as well as the 2011 season, I am grateful every time I have the opportunity to jump in my Funny Car and to go down the drag strip.”
